that happens, it's easy to let stress takeover your mind and
body.
You do your best not to let it affect you,
but you find yourself getting stuck on something someone said playing it
over and over in your head, and before you know it, you've lost sight
of your priorities and goals. More importantly, you start to feel
tense which can cause you to make impulsive and short-sighted
decisions.
Stress can be caused a number
of things, such as your environment, your body, and your thoughts.
Instead of stressing about things outside of our control, we need to
reconnect with our inner-wisdom. Yoga is a practice that builds self-awareness
and helps cultivate a response from a calmer, quieter place.
There are ways to practice it off the mat - as part of your daily life.
Here are 5 ways to bring yoga to work:
1. Sit up with chest open
When slouching, the chest caves collapsing the diaphragm, impacting the flow of
oxygen through the body. Sit tall to allow for deep breathing and as sense
of inner expansion. Posture affects your inner state. A lengthened
spine connects all parts of the body,so take care of it!
2. Practice Mindfulness
Instead of focusing on the piles of
work waiting for you, or the never-ending stream of emails.
Approach one task fully engaged, and feel the rewards of completion.
3. Soften Your Eyes
Stop squinting at the screen. Focus from
an inward awareness while breathing consciously allowing the body to
expand. This helps to relax the body/mind.
4. Set an Intention
Intention infuses actions with clarity
of purpose to direct your energy. By consciously setting an
intention, you energize your goals. You'll feel better about each
task if you endow them with an the focus you need to complete them.
5. Throw Your Hands in the Air
Reach your hands up, as if you just won the lottery
or need to scare something away (think warrior). By stretching this way, you
trigger an emotional response and feel more powerful. When you feel
powerful, you naturally manage stress better.
Off the mat and into work and life, yoga teaches us
how to manage life's challenges. By connecting mind and body, these
tips help us navigate stress with calm
confidence.
